oh man who else thinks it sucks that the world cup is every 4 years?? i do. 4 years is waaaay to long , who knows what will happen till then. maybe we won’t even be alive :’( and we only have 1 month to enjoy… lets enjoy the next 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not really. Having it every year would get boring. It takes a long time for the host to prepare for it and the teams have to be created and everything. Having it every four years makes it special and makes it a bigger event. The whole world joins together. Changing it would ruin the tradition.
I noticed that each ball in the 2010 world cup has both teams of the match printed near the FIFA logo. What happens to the ball, post match? Does the winning team get to keep it? Is it donated?
I guess it will be donated away

everyone goes on about how the world cup is about unity and all this when eurovision does it to and every country has an equal chance of winning unlike the world cup what do you think?
Well every chance has an equal chance of winning in both. They’re both about the skill and performance of each country. And they’re both beautiful things that help bring people together ![]()
I love watching both and they make me proud to be European
They won Euro cup once before. But then they disappointed in the World Cup. Then they disappointed in the World Cup and Euro Cup for decades, and now they won the Euro Cup. But I think they’ll still disappoint in the World Cup.
They always get rated very highly, but frankly, in World Cups they have nothing to show for it. They always fail in the World Cup.
So I don’t understand they hype at all.
i like Spain but i don’t think that they will win the world cup, like Argentina
you know how nfl, nba, nhl-they all have 1 season, then the playoffs, then the championships.
is it like that for soccer too. do they have 1 season every year, except that on every 4th year, they’ll play for the world cup instead.
if the World cup happening right now was a playoff, does the next regular season start after the championship is given-by which i mean, will teams start playing to qualify for the world cup next year and the next three years, or do they take a break until three years form now, and then start competing with each other.
There are about 200 countries in the world, each country have their own club leagues. Each country belong two one of the 6 continental confederations of the planet (Europe – UEFA, North America – CONCACAF, South America -CONMENBOL, Africa CAF, Asia – AFC and Oceania) that is controlled by FIFA, the World governing body of soccer.
In resume the domestic clubs leagues of each country are played at weekends, each country decide the star/end of each season based on their weather (ex: England league starts on September, Russian League starts on march) and normally one season is around 10months, normally the international clubs competitions of confederations are played at wednesdays.
So the National teams when they play? FIFA decided several dates of the year (normally 8 dates) only for national games for all countries in the world, so each country cannot schedule club games for that dates. So to conclude the qualifications for world cup takes about two years and are divided by continents, in games schedule by FIFA, in two years all national teams play several games to qualify in their continental zone, so you get the best 32 that play in World cup.
note: In the gap of two years before qualifiing for world cup there are continental championship qualifiers and finals. (example in UEFA: the qualifiers for European championship finals that will be in 2012, are played in the 2010/2011.
